Awoman name Tererai grew up in a remote, rural village in Zimbabwe. She was raised in a hut with no electricity and no running water. In her village, only boys had the opportunity to go to school. As a little girl she was desperate to learn so she secretly did her brother's homework.
In 1991 a volunteer from Heifer International visited Tererai's African village. She asked a group a people gathered what their hopes and dreams were. Tererai spoke up and said "I want to go to America to have an education. And I want a BS and a Masters and I want to have a Ph.D." The volunteer told Tererai, "If you desire those things, it is achievable. Write those things in your heart. Whatever you desire." Then Tererai's mother told her to write down those dreams on a piece of paper and bury it. So she did. She wrote down: "I Tererai have decided that as a woman without an education life will continue to be a burden. And I want to get an education. Here are the dreams that I want to achieve: I want to go to the U.S.A. and get an education. A Bachelors degree, a Masters degree, and the highest degree, a Ph.D."
Tererai's list manifested. She moved to the United States and received an education all the way up to a Ph.D. She went back to the place where she buried her list and placed a check mark next to every item.
